Telling people to 🛑 using substances, prosecuting them, or forcing them into treatment doesn’t work. We’ve tried that, and it can make things worse. We need HARM REDUCTION & treatment. #IOAD2023
In Canada 7,328 people died last year due to accidental drug poisoning (more widely known as an overdose), which represents an average of 20 deaths per day.
The reasons why people use and depend on substances vary greatly. It’s not up to us to place judgement or speculate on substance use.
What is up to us, is to treat drug poisoning as a major health concern, impacting thousands of people across the country.
