On January 10, organizer Robin Poliszuk brought together musicians, performers and community members for a special evening at Amigos Cantina in support of people impacted by mental illness.

The event featured performances by Blu and Jon C of The Link, guest artist Phat Homie and comedian Danny Knight as MC. Together, the artists and audience created a night filled with music, laughter and connection — raising $1,040.47 for CMHA Saskatoon programs and services.

For the performers, supporting mental health was personal. Jon C shared that “mental health support saves lives,” noting that creative expression, community and honest conversations help pull people back from dark places. He emphasized that his support for this mental health fundraiser was “about breaking stigma and building something better, where people feel seen, supported and empowered to keep going.”

Ultimately, it’s about recognizing people’s humanity and ensuring help is available when life becomes overwhelming.

Comedian Danny Knight added that “mental health affects us all in different ways,” and that we all need stronger supports to help build a healthier, more compassionate society together.

For the artists, the night’s most powerful moment was “seeing the light in the fans’ eyes and how it felt like connection. Sometimes the world can be a dark place. We need shows like this to bring hope, raise awareness and create that connection.”

Thanks to Robin and the incredible artists who donated their time and talent, this evening of music and community will help bring hope and support to people in our community.

“Supporting mental health is ultimately about valuing people beyond their productivity or appearance. It’s about recognizing their humanity and making sure help is there when life becomes overwhelming. It’s important because it turns awareness into action. It helps ensure mental health support is not abstract or distant, but present, reachable and grounded in community.”
