SUMMARY:Osi-Can (Operational Stress Injury) Drop In
DESCRIPTION:*Please note this group does not meet at the CMHA Saskatoon building. See below for meeting location. \nOSI-CAN exists to support those people in specific careers that have been affected by an Operational Stress Injury such as PTSD’s symptoms while on duty.  It is not necessary to have a diagnosis of PTSD or other OSI’s to get the help of an OSI-CAN Peer Support Group. So if you are dealing with the symptoms of PTSD and find your life is being disrupted by the symptoms\, we encourage you to seek expert counselling as well as come to one of our peer support groups for help.  If you find it difficult to attend the Saskatoon meeting\, such as when living outside the city\, there are online groups as well that you can attend.  You can find our target demographic at www.osicansk.ca. \nMeetings are held at Sobeys Varsity Common (1550 8th Street East) in the private room near the cash registers. \n*Please note to not ask Sobeys staff about the meeting or meeting location. This information is kept confidential for the comfort of those attending. \nFor more information please contact group facilitator Jason Rorick at jasonrorick@hotmail.com.

SUMMARY:Delisle Community Walk for Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd Annual Delisle Community Walk for Mental Health will be held on Saturday\, September 23rd\, in memory of Dwaine. \n“After Dwaine died\, those of us who loved him struggled\, as all those left behind by suicide do\, with the longing of wanting to know what we could have done to keep him from taking his own life. Over the last 10 months\, we’ve come to realize that there was nothing we could have done. He was the only one who could have changed the outcome and had he been more aware of the help available and was more receptive to receiving that help\, it may have made a difference and he’d still be here today. \nThis event to raise awareness and get people talking\, helps to ease our longing of wanting to know what we could have done to save him…because we’re doing something to save others.”\n— Angela \nIn lieu of personal pledges\, donations in memory of Dwaine will be gratefully accepted for CMHA Saskatoon to support critical programs and services. \n \n

SUMMARY:World Suicide Prevention Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:This year\, in honour of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th\, we are holding space for those we have lost to suicide. \nFrom Friday – Sunday (September 8 – 10)\, stop by CMHA Saskatoon and light a candle in honour of those you love. \nThis is meant to be a private and personal candlelight vigil. Outside you will find a box with a pen and paper where you may write your loved ones name and a message to them\, if you choose. Then\, tape it to a candle\, and flip the switch on the bottom of the candle to “light it.” \n  \n \nWe hope this provides our community with an opportunity to grieve and remember their loved ones. \nIf you require additional support please contact CMHA Saskatoon at 306-384-9333 or email info@cmhasaskatoon.ca. Please note that we are not a crisis organization. If you find yourself in crisis please contact Mobile Crisis at 306-933-6200.

SUMMARY:International Women's Day
DESCRIPTION:International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social\, economic\, cultural and political achievements of women.\n \nImagine a gender equal world. \nA world free of bias\, stereotypes\, and discrimination. \nA world that is diverse\, equitable\, and inclusive. \nA world where difference is valued and celebrated. \nTogether we can forge women’s equality. \n  \nInternational Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since the early 1900’s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.\nThe world has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women’s and society’s thoughts about women’s equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation may feel that ‘all the battles have been won for women’ while many feminists from the 1970’s know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom\, greater equality in legislative rights\, and an increased critical mass of women’s visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life\, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts\, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics\, and globally women’s education\, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However\, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers\, school girls are welcomed into university\, women can work and have a family\, women have real choices. \nEvent Information  \nWhat is happening in Canada?\nThe Government of Canada’s theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022 is Women Inspiring Women. \nIt celebrates all the women and girls who inspire us by demonstrating leadership in the choices they make in their day-to-day lives to contribute to the social\, economic\, cultural\, and political spheres. In Canada\, unlike in many other countries\, women are free to study and be leaders in the field they choose\, care and provide for their family\, express who they are\, and fight for their beliefs. \nWomen of Impact in Canada  \nSupporting Women’s Mental Health\nCAMH – Womenmind \nWomen’s Mental Health Matters  \nRun for Women 2022 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Pink Shirt Day
DESCRIPTION:Anti-Bullying Day is a day when people wear a pink shirt to symbolise a stand against bullying\, an idea that originated in Canada. Pink Shirt Day started because two boys chose to do something about bullying rather than stand by and watch it happen. Now the movement is worldwide\, educating and inspiring others to stand together and take action against violence and bullying.\nBullying is a major problem in our schools\, workplaces\, homes\, and online\, Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness of these issues\, as well as raise funds to support programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.\n \n\n\nWHAT IS BULLYING?\nBullying is a form of aggression where there is a power imbalance; the person doing the bullying has power over the person being victimized. In additional to any physical trauma incurred\, bullying can result in serious emotional problems\, including anxiety\, low self-esteem\, or depression. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTYPES OF BULLYING\nPhysical bullying: using physical force or aggression against another person (e.g.\, hitting) \nVerbal bullying: using words to verbally attack someone (e.g.\, name-calling) \nSocial/relational bullying: trying to hurt someone through excluding them\, spreading rumours or ignoring them (e.g.\, gossiping) \nCyberbullying: using electronic media to threaten\, embarrass\, intimidate\, or exclude someone\, or to damage their reputation (e.g.\, sending threatening text messages). \n\nHow to Support Our Youth?\nNational Pink Shirt Day Awareness  \nIndigenous Pink Shirt Day Awareness  \nNational Bullying Support  \nSaskatchewan Bullying Prevention  \n

SUMMARY:CMHA Talk Today: Goals for Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Join us on February 5th\, 2022 to cheer on the Saskatoon Blades and promote mental health awareness in our community!\n#Talk Today is one of the most comprehensive mental health programs for amateur sports in Canada. Its aim is to promote the mental health of young athletes and to spread awareness about the benefits of positive mental health throughout communities across the country. \nOriginally launched by CMHA Ontario Division in partnership with the OHL in 2014\, Talk Today provides an important opportunity to address the mental health needs of athletes across the province and across Canada. This program has become a valuable platform for CMHA branches\, teams and individual players to encourage open discussion about mental health within the hockey community and the broader public. \nThis year as part of the Talk Today program’s partnership with RE/MAX and the WHL\, teams\nacross the league can help raise awareness about mental health. As COVID-19 continues to\nhave a significant impact on the rising mental health challenges across the country\, teams\nacross the WHL can share some helpful tips to help fans reduce their anxiety\, stress\, and worry\nduring this difficult period.\nWe are excited to announce that a portion of the proceeds collected from the 50/50 tickets on February 5th\, 2022 will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association Saskatoon Branch. \nWe are grateful for the support of Remax\, WHL and the Saskatoon Blades for their commitment to the mental health of our community! \nMore about:\nWHL  \nREMAX \n
